Unparalleled’s work began action sports and now spans commercial production, television, documentary, and feature film genres, including the release of THE RIVER WHY, starring Zach Guilford, Amber Heard, Academy Award winner William Hurt, Academy Award nominee Kathleen Quinlan, and distributed by Image Entertainment and Fox. Recent work also includes production of the short film ALONE TIME, featuring Broadway actress Rose Hemingway, who starred opposite Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Darren Chris (Glee), and John Larroquette (Night Court) in HOW TO SUCCED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING. Additional productions have been featured on PBS, CBS, ESPN, CMT, OLN, HDNet, VH1, G4, VS, FOX, and Time-Life Video. We strive to develop clear and compelling stories that are often more important than the visuals that accompany them. But it doesn’t end there. Embarking on a feature film, commercial, television production, or corporate/branding spot requires a focused message to engage the audience and captivate their attention–but it also takes guts.
Our goal is to use our hands-on, pragmatic approach and practical experience to hone each production, bringing as much original thinking as possible and emphasizing the aesthetics of that vision. Producer/director/writer Josh Murphy grew up on the eastern shores of Lake Erie, flirted with art, and dreamed of being a professional hockey player–or, better yet, following in the footsteps of his idol: adventure pioneer Jacques Cousteau. Topping out at a whopping 5’6”, the former dream seemed a bit unreasonable. After classical training in biology and natural/environmental science, he did what any reasonable, dyslexic post-graduate would do, and became a professional skier. But his creative urge got the better of him. After purchasing a Bolex 16mm film camera from fledgling eBay and befriending a couple of Norwegians, he embarked on his most ambitious journey–that of a filmmaker. Six years into a career which included worldwide travel to adventure locations, he knew he had found a calling, but one that could not be satisfied through action documentaries alone. Veering into the world of commercial, television, and feature film production, he realized fourteen years later that he had come full circle. Cousteau’s unique vision was not as much about his explorations underwater as it was about the stories he shared when he returned. While he may never have planned it, film remains his legacy. Would that I can be so lucky!
